my first recipes

Those of you are used to preparing your own food (other than in a microwave) can just disregard this whole post. I have only ever really had to feed myself, so I rarely do more than just heat something  up. Now it’s different. I want Jo Jo and I to sit down together and enjoy our food, so that eating is associated with fun and quality family time. I want her to see that we’re eating the same thing. She’s only 7 months old, but she totally notices!

Plus at about $1.50 TO $2.00 per organic food pouch, making our food only makes sense for my budget.

So here are the first four recipes I’ve picked out. I plan to make double the portion, puree half for her, and eat the other half myself.

1. Potato, summer squash, and peas
Cooking time is listed as 19 minutes. The recipe includes onion sauteed in butter and vegetable or chicken stock.

2. Fillet of fish with cheese sauce and vegetables
The vegetables they list are leek, carrots, and peas, with peppercorns, bay leaf, and parsley for seasoning.

3. Vegetable puree with tomato and cheese
The veggies in this one are carrots, cauliflower, zucchini, and tomato. Plus butter and cheese.

4. Instant no-cook banana purees
These are the simplest, just a blend of banana plus your choice of fruit. Not for freezing, though.

I’ll let you know how they turn out, and more importantly, if the baby likes them as much as me!

Note: All of these come from “Top 100 Baby Purees” by Annabel Karmel, which I borrowed and really like.
