oh my god it worked!

After following my own rules today, with mealtimes, my toddler just ate some of her lunch! We shared a plate, she sat at the table with me, and used a grown-up fork. She still threw food, she still threw utensils, she still batted things away. But she also put lots in her mouth, and wanted me to feed her some rice and plain yogurt with a spoon! She especially enjoyed drinking her water out of a real cup, and not a sippy. This after having a morning snack of cheese stick (of course) and organic banana/apple/berry snack pouch.

Notice the bangle! She likes to wear them. Do I have a future girly-girl on my hands after all???

I also turned down a friend who wanted me to come shopping with her because it would throw Jo Jo’s routine all off. When she was a baby I did what I wanted, when I wanted, and she just came along, Now I’m facing the hard fact that routine and structure are necessary for a toddler’s well-being (and perhaps appetite).

  1. Just because I’m always looking for ways and things to get my kiddo to eat, did you follow any particular guidelines or menu suggestions from anywhere, or did you just put this menu together because it sounded good to you? I am lousy with meal planning, and get in ruts very easily – I love a good menu planning recommendation!

And nicely done – it is not easy to “sacrifice” our (usually pointless) habits to get the kids to eat, but we’ve found that sitting at a table makes an amazing difference for us, and using the same plates / utensils has been very helpful too.
