metro parks make for a great stay-cation

I worked for two days, but instead of cleaning the disaster zone that my house always is when I’m away, I packed up our bathing suits and we drove an hour and a half to a metro park that has a petting farm, a splash pad, and a large beach with playgrounds. (There’s also miles and miles of hiking trails, bike paths, and all kinds of boating available.) We spent four and a half hours looking at animals, eating lunch at a playground, swimming and wading and playing in sand, and finally running around in the splash pad.

One thing that’s for sure: I’m bone tired. In the middle of the night last night, my good sleeper woke up and cried for two hours. Two whole hours, in the middle of the night, no matter what I did. She finally fell asleep in my arms in a rocking chair. It doesn’t help that my house is always much worse than I left it after a few 12 hour shifts… and I either have to clean it immediately or escape it immediately.

  1. Must’ve been in the air last night. Evelyn cried for 2 hours straight last night, too. From 1-3 am. I damn near lost my mind, and I’m bone tired, too. Here’s to sleep!
