when life is joy

With new fall routines, I’m finding myself so content and full of wonder at the joy that being a mother has brought to my life. I’m happy taking her to school, revelling in a cup of coffee at the library while I study to further my career, music and swimming lessons (for her), and new milestones that make me cheer. She says new words every day (today it was “bug”) and grows up a little almost weekly. Today she willingly sat on the potty for the first time, and was rewarded with a piece of toilet paper (which I never used to let her have). She promptly wiped her mouth with it, and when I encouraged her to flush it, she waved bye-bye and blew kisses at it as it disappeared down the bowl.

How friggin’ cute is that?!

My co-workers are throwing me an adoption shower, and despite initial reservations to ask for anything (I was happy to just have a party), under lots of pressure I created a registry on amazon.com. And it’s about 75% books! A lot of them are children’s stories geared toward adopted children. And a lot of them are simply books and stories I enjoyed as a kid and think are necessary for a children’s library.

Because of the all-day rain, we spent the day using the hands-on museum membership we got as an adoption gift, and spent the afternoon there. I finished my weekly readings and homework, don’t have a class to go to this week, and the biggest concern I have right now is whether to study ahead for next week at the library while M is in school tomorrow morning, or stay home and work on setting up her new room decorations… what a wonderful life!
