grooming my kid for the long ride in the sky

The plane ride we’ll be on, that is.

It is hard for me right now to blog about anything with what is happening in Nepal. Seriously, guys, you know how you can fall deeply in love with a person? I fell in love that way with the country. And we never really broke up, you know? Even if the initial passion died down. I’ve been crying looking at the photos of all the places I’ve been: amazing, magical places and open, kind-hearted people.

Anyway. This post is about the fact that I’m slowly but surely turning my toddler into a long-distance rider. In preparation for our 7.5 hour flight to Germany, we’ve been spending quite a bit of time in the car. The longer she learns to tolerate the car seat, the better. Saturday we spent most of the day in the car driving to a preceptor interview I had an hour and a half from home, and stayed in the car while my cousin sat with her and I did the interview. She was awake the whole time. We then drove out to meet with a friend another hour away, and she napped for that drive. Then we drove two hours to get back home at the end of the day, and she was awake for that. When we got home, guess what??? She didn’t want to get out of the car! I kid you not. Crazy kid!

We’ve had our share of bad car rides in the past, but these days? She’s good. She even asks to bye-bye in the car every single morning, and skips happily to the car to get in her seat. She watches Nemo and “Choo Choo” (Chuggington), plays with her collection of plastic butterflies, looks at books, eats (non-crumby/sticky) snacks, sips water, and takes naps. Hopefully she will sleep for a good portion of the long flight, too, as it will be getting late on our home clock at the tail end of the flight. Oh, and I will be wearing her butt OUT prior to going to the airport.

P.S. Cindy is now saying on her facebook that she is coming back to my state soon. No idea if that’s really going to happen, but things do stay interesting!
