beside myself

The urine screen was negative. She had no drugs in her system. I’m totally beside myself. Something is wrong with this kid. Really wrong. She’s defiant and scary irritable. And now I don’t even know if or when it will stop. No one can tolerate her for five minutes right now, so how am I supposed to go back to work?

I honestly feel like I’m not sure I can do this.

  1. I’m so sorry you guys are going through all this. I wish I could say or do something that could help. Could she be going through some crazy readjustment period after the trip? Though I’m sure you’ve considered all the possibilities. I hope she’s able to calm down and re-regulate herself again soon.

Also, restrictive diets are so freaking hard. I hope you find a groove with it soon.

  2. So she didn’t get into any medication, it’s just a weird behavior problem? Maybe the poster above is right, she’s having a hard time getting it together after your vacation. My girl sometimes takes a few days to get back to normal after traveling, it sucks. I hope she calms down for you soon!

  3. My son is autistic (I know M is not but thought it might help to hear this). He has a very hard time readjusting when his routine changes, even something like a school trip can throw him off for days. He gets very defiant and emotional. When he was Ms age it manifested in him hitting other kids or threatening worse behaviours to anyone who would listen. I hope your girl is just going through something that will pass. Colt has learned so much about self regulation between age 8 and 11. A long way off yet but don’t give up hope. I never thought we would ever see the person Colt is becoming now when things looked so bleak when he was little. Hang in there. You’ll find the right way to help her cope.

Just a thought…did the introduction of any of the new pills coincide with her mood change?

  4. I know this might be a very unpopular post… But have you considered taking her to a child psychiatrist to see if she truly does have ODD or ADHD? If she does, the sooner you get help the better off she will be in the long run.

    • No that is definitely a fear I’ve had. I did in fact do that last September and also we found out about her thyroid issue. She improved son much so fast we were able to stop seeing the therapist

  5. I too wonder if it was just too much stimulation (a really fun trip!) followed by back to normal routine and she is just reajdusting. Hope she is doing better now.
